Juvederm nasolabial folds swelling

Juvederm is a cosmetic filler intended to fill in facial wrinkles and folds. This hyaluronic-acid based filler replaces the hyaluronic acid lost by the body as part of the aging process. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the body’s connective tissue. Injections of Juvederm fill in the space between collagen and elastin in the skin. Once injected, it increases smoothness and volume while attracting water molecules to improve hydration. As a result, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is improved.

Juvederm nasolabial folds how long does it last?

Juvederm is the hyaluronic acid dermal filler sold by allergan for the purpose of enhancing the deeper lines formed on the face–most notably, the nasolabial folds. Many other ‘off label’ uses such as enhancement of the cheeks, tear troughs, lips, etc have also been performed. This substance lasts in most individuals from 9-12 months.

restylane vs juvederm cost

There are many different fillers, Restylane, Restylane Lyft (formerly Perlane), Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus, and Radiesse that can be injected into the nasolabial folds. However, a global assessment of the face is necessary before injecting the nasolabial folds, as loss of cheek volume which results in cheek sagging will often accentuate the depth of the nasolabial folds, in which case injecting filler to replace cheek volume will dramatically reduce the appearance of the nasolabial folds, as well as rejuvenate the face.

The choice of a hyaluronic acid filler, such as Restylane of Juvederm, depends on the area to be injected and the specific needs of the patient. Differences in the manufacturing process affect the properties of each filler – how much water they bind, their cohesiveness, their relative ‘hardness”, the forced needed to inject them, their durability and how they reflect light from the skin.  Restylane works better for the under eye hollow because the product is less likely to imbibe too much water and cause puffiness.
