What is vampire facial?

A Vampire Facial(VF) or PRP facial, combines microneedling (also known as collagen-induction therapy) with topical application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from your own blood.

This skin rejuvenation treatment creates an overall improvement to skin texture and tone. It can also reduce scars (including acne scars), correct hyperpigmentation, tighten lax skin, smooth fine lines, and minimize the appearance of large pores.

All therapies that involve the use of PRP require micro-needling. This is a process that uses tiny needles that puncture the outer layer of the dermis. This is done on the parts of the face that naturally slow the production of collagen and elastin. Once inside, the PRP helps the proteins heal, ultimately making them produce new cells at a much faster pace.

Moreover, since it’s a non-surgical procedure that is minimally invasive, there are no long-term scarring risks and actually helps to minimize any previous scars.

vampire facial benefits

  • The treatment is fast (typically taking less than an hour) and requires little downtime.
  • The Vampire Facial maintains a high Worth It Rating on RealSelf, with many members praising their results, especially after multiple treatment sessions.
  • It’s suitable for all skin tones and types. Still, to minimize the risk of hyperpigmentation, providers may more shallowly microneedle and/or pretreat patients who have olive or brown skin tones.
  • There’s little chance of an allergic reaction, since PRP comes from your own blood. In a review of 16 studies on PRP for skin rejuvenation, no adverse events were reported.

VF facial cost

The price you pay will depend on the experience level of your provider, their practice location and technique, and whether you combine your facial with any other procedures.

Most providers recommend more than one treatment for optimal results, which could raise your overall price, too.

VF Side Effects

It’s important to be aware of the side effects of the Vampire Facial before undergoing the treatment. While it’s a relatively safe process, there are minimal side effects that may occur. These include redness, sensitivity, itching, bruising, and swelling. There are no serious side effects associated with the Vampire Facial.

VF after care

  • Do not touch your skin for at least 6 hours. Allow the serum to remain on your skin so it can continue to work.
  • You can rinse your face the next morning with lukewarm water, but avoid using any cleansers that can cause harm. Wash your hands with soap before touching the skin.
  • Gently pat dry taking special care not to rub the skin. You may sense that the skin is firmer than usual. But, over the next few days up to 2 weeks, it will soften and regain a supple, smooth feel.
  • While the discomfort should settle within 24 hours, if you continue to feel pain, take a Tylenol. Do not take anti-inflammatory or any other medications without checking with the doctor.
  • Use an ice pack to calm the swelling, but place a thin cloth between the pack and your skin. Avoid direct contact and time the applications at 5-minute intervals.
  • For the next 2 days, sleep on your back with your head elevated. In this way, you can lower the swelling and bruising.
  • As part of the aftercare for Vampire facial, do not use any exfoliating or any other harsh agents on your skin for at least 72 hours. But, you can use a non-chemical, organic moisturizer that is gentle. If your dermatologist recommends it, you can use hyaluronic acid to moisturize and nourish your skin
